Garternay
Garternay was a former member of Grippsly's gang, a Catalogue for the Tariats, and the current TAERA'n Prospectus for the Circiern Region.
As a fairy, Garternay is no bigger than a child's doll. She wears an elegantly tailored robe that she changes to match the season and the changing colour of her eyes. She has two pairs of short horns on her forehead, and sharp fanged teeth, a feature of fairies which does not undermine the evident intelligence behind her currently brown eyes.
A war refugee from Kerebrihn, Garternay grew up an orphan in the slums around Voltaine. She joined a misfit youth gang run by Grippsly, and was prized by the other children for her ability to enter small spaces to steal and when her Augury manifested, to communicate telepathically to them.
Garternay always felt conflicted by the gang's actions, and was sometimes mocked for acting as the voice of reason. Despite this, she was supported by her friends to study for and attend her Tariat examinations, which she passed.
Promising to see her close friends again, she left for Voltaine to become a Tariat, and entered a half-fugue state for 5 years as an Archive, then worked as a Catalogue. During this time, she was moved to Rhyne, where she mindlessly hoarded data about weather patterns and crop outputs. Coming to at the end of her tenure, Garternay elected to stay in Rhyne, fearing the reality of having her friends move on from her if she returned to Voltaine.
Garternay continued to work in adjacent roles, hiding her fear in the mental thrill of new and old information. Her continued service for TAERA was rewarded with a position of Prospectus; managing the economic and social output of Palisades and other frontier settlements in the Circern Region.
Garternay was tearfully reunited with Grippsly after more than 10 years apart when she was called upon to identify the body of their close friend and Herald Elimarah.
Alongside Vaxis, she was the first to recognize the oncoming assault of the Pennant Archae under the guise of a negotiation. She immediately promoted Harbinger Orin Somnihlus to Militia Commander, and coordinated the siege response with him. She ordered Grippsly to assist the Merse instead of manning the defenses, as she did not want to lose another friend.
Receiving telepathic communications from scouts, she informed Orin, Vulpen and the Amansir that the Pennant Archae had brought a silo of water with them. Conflicted in advising Orin to destroy the water as a war crime, she advised against it, but later telepathically communicated to him to make his own decision on the matter.
