Aingrim Bors - 'The Watertaker'

Aingrim Bors was a former disgraced Rhyern general during the Violate Wars and now a member of Second Sunrise. He is the only known combatant to have faced the Violate King and lived to tell the tale.

Description

Aingrim is an exceedingly stocky dwarf, with a long and elaborately braided orange beard.

During his service, he was known to display an extravagant mohawk, but has since completely shaven his head while in prison.

Aingrim's thick layer of fat does little to hide the immense size of his muscles, continuously trained on for decades. Despite his legendary yet controversial moniker, those that first encounter him mistake him for a fat nondescript mercenary.Tthose that know better back away at the sight of his wild gaze, and the barely restrained need to demonstrate his prowess.

He has an abrupt and abrasive etiquette, something his long time in isolation has exuberated; he has often attempted to solve his problems impulsively and with violence, something that often puts him at odds with the rest of his party and society in general.

As a result of his first fight with the Red Asva, Aingrim now has a fine cross marked on his chest from where Longitude slashed him.

History

Born to a wealthy lineage from a Craftlord ancestor, Rogurn Bors sought guidance for his sons, Aingrim and Lumen, from the Oracle of Pyryn. Instead of guidance, she foresaw a vision for the future "Rogurn Bors' sons would grow to become great warriors; one would open the gates of Grief and Burden, and the other would close the gate of Chaos and Annihilation'.

Inspired by the strange woman and her fortelling of his son's greatness, Rogurn returned to Rhyne and begun to pay for the greatest martial education the boys could receive. They were trained in every weapon, every tactic, trick and battle strategy known to the generals of Rhyne. Rogurn was even able to sequester the tutelage of Herald Morgoht, the oldest warrior alive, to train the boys. Aingrim craved physical prowess and dominance in his training, while his brother excelled in agile swordsmanship.

Their father's expectations turned the boys from brothers to rivals, as their training was marked by this unspoken call to greatness. Expected to be more than just ordinary men, Aingrim and Lumen completed their training, and sought divine sponsorship from the God of Battle, BLEM.

Bandits, Rampants, entire mercenary battalions and even Scions fell to their combined might, deepening their devotion to god of grief and war. When no greater challenge presented itself to them, the brothers turned to fight each other over ascension. On the spire of Mt. Trinitus, the brothers dueled for days until an exhausted Lumen ascended, and smashed Aingrim to the ground. No longer viewing Aingrim as a threat to his divinity, Lumen spared his life and left his brother forever in his shadow.

The once inseparable brothers returned to Rhyne, an incredible distance now between them; Lumen earnt the praise of his father and his new heraldic brothers and sisters, while Aingrim turned to brew to mask his hazy grief and rage. He had lost a brother, but had gained a seething hatred of Heralds and Trinium itself.

When the Violate King came to Enaeth, Aingrim became a general for the Rhyern army. Even leading legions of troops, he still sat beneath the proud and arrogant Heralds. In only a few weeks of command, Aingrim earnt himself the name 'Watertaker' for his savage slaughter of combatants, and his thirst for ales to drown out his apathy.

When TAERA was formed, Aingrim's legion became part of the emergency coalition. When the King approached Torrens, he was appointed as ancillary general on a special operation; leading the rearguard, so a Herald squad could infiltrate the Violate King's army and pacify the King.

The details of this military action were never confirmed in the chaos of the 'Defense of Torrens'. All that is known is all eleven Heralds involved were either dead or missing in action. Aingrim was found in the aftermath, surrounded by dead Heralds, kneeling next to the body of Herald Lumen and a cracked Terraformer.

Initially, Aingrim was hailed as a war hero, defying fate itself to complete the Herald's mission and save Torrens. Over the following months, reports and statements trickled in, conflicting with Aingrim's post-battle accounts. What had actually transpired during this final battle... Did the Violate King kill the Heralds... or did someone else? As Aingrim's command became more and more erratic, and the rumors surrounding his actions increased, the Theovocates tried Aingrim for his inebriation, and he was sentenced to prison for fifteen years for dereliction of duty and impiety.

Over time, the shame, grief and regret over his actions worked their way into Aingrim's mind. The time of his sentence came, and Aingrim elected to remain imprisoned. Living in exile, there he would stay, hidden from the accusations that came with the name 'Watertaker'.
